Advantages of Effective Mulch and Rock Application

Incorporating mulch and rocks into your landscaping offers both visual appeal and functional benefits. Here’s how they contribute:

  • Temperature Regulation: Mulch and rocks act as insulators for the soil in your landscape beds, protecting plant roots from abrupt temperature fluctuations. Although our region in Florida rarely experiences extremely cold weather, on those chilly days, it's crucial to shield your plants with effective insulation.

  • Moisture Conservation: By using mulch and rocks, the soil’s ability to maintain moisture is enhanced. This conservation aids your watering system in operating more effectively by preventing water from evaporating too quickly under the heat.

  • Weed Control: Applying a layer of mulch and rocks can suppress the growth of unwanted weeds. This barrier prevents weeds from accessing sunlight, air, and moisture, all vital for photosynthesis, thus inhibiting their growth in your garden beds.

  • Erosion Control: Florida's frequent rainfall can lead to soil erosion, particularly in landscaped areas where you have invested in fertilization and weed prevention. Mulch and rocks help to anchor the soil, preventing it from being washed away during heavy rains.

Landscape Return on Investment

Part of our job is to inquire into your future plans for your property, and try to solve problems and save you money.

If you are not planning on selling your home any time in the next 5 to 6 years, a rock installation is highly recommended.

Rock is 5 to 6 times more expensive than mulch, assuming it is non-imported, and installed correctly. But because mulch floats and will need annual replacement, rock is an investment in your property worth considering.

Not only does rock lower the maintenance costs on your property, but because the industrial grade underlayment we use (in lieu of weaker "weed barrier") to retain the stone is manufactured to last 25 to 30 years, you can pocket the savings from not having to mulch every year.
